Finally, we made our long journey to World Gymnaestrda in Switzerland! World Gymnaestrada is held every four years and is the largest general gymnastics exhibition. Teams from all around Australia participated and for many it was the first Gymnaestrada they have ever partaken in. Gymnaestrada began with the opening ceremony it was a huge spectacle and an incredible experience. All the participating nations paraded into the Olympic Stadium and there were performances throughout the ceremony. Also every country had an official flag bearer and Lynn Martin our coach was selected to represent Australia!

All the teams from around Australia stayed together in Lutry which is a tiny town in Switzerland. There we were taken care of by volunteers who took us on outings around Switzerland. They also gave us traditional Swiss foods to try for example Raclette cheese and different flavours of swiss chocolate! Also a special mention and thanks to Ruth our volunteer in Switzerland who helped make our Gymnaestrada extra special!

Our team did three fantastic performances throughout the week. People from all around the world watched our performances. This was an amazing opportunity for us and a very rewarding experience. In addition, our team was selected to represent Australia in the ‘English Speaking Night’ performance. It was the largest and most important show we have ever done. It gave us the opportunity to perform with teams from around the world, which included Canada, United Kingdom and more!

Finally, we would like to congratulate all the teams from all around Australia that participated, you all did fantastic performances!

From the 2nd – 4th of July the team attended a German Wheel (Rhönrad) IRV coaching course in Taunusstein. Throughout the course everyone learnt a variety of coaching techniques and new advanced wheel skills.

The most important lesson was learning how to spot the athlete on the wheel. We found that they had slightly different spotting techniques. This was very helpful and now we can combine the new methods with our pre existing knowledge. By the end of the course everyone managed to achieve the IRV level one coaches accreditation.

This newfound knowledge will continue to grow and advance the wheel team. Congratulations to everyone who completed the course!
